India Tour Of Bangladesh: India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh could face another delay, with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal indicating that discussions between the two cricket boards are still underway. The development has once again raised uncertainty over the much-anticipated limited-overs series between the two neighbouring countries.
Tamim Iqbal, the 37-year-old former Bangladesh captain, said that the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are currently discussing the future of the series. His comments suggest that the tour may not go ahead according to the schedule previously announced by the Bangladesh board.
The India tour was originally scheduled for August 2025. However, the series was later postponed and moved to September 2026. In January, the BCB announced that India would travel to Bangladesh for a six-match white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. The matches were expected to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram.
However, the BCCI has not yet made an official announcement confirming the tour.
India Tour Of Bangladesh Schedule Still Uncertain
According to an earlier BCB press release, the first ODI of the series is scheduled to be played on September 3. Despite that announcement, a fresh and confirmed schedule has not been released.
This has created uncertainty over whether the India Tour Of Bangladesh will begin as planned or whether the series could once again be postponed. The final decision is expected to depend not only on discussions between the two cricket boards but also on the wider situation between India and Bangladesh.
Why Was the Series Postponed?
The proposed tour has already gone through several changes. The series was initially expected to take place in 2024, but political unrest in Bangladesh, including anti-government protests and a change in government, created uncertainty around the tour.
The situation became more complicated ahead of the T20 World Cup, with relations between the two cricket boards also coming under pressure. As a result, the series was eventually pushed back.
Security Remains a Major Concern
Security is another important factor surrounding the India Tour Of Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal recently met Bangladesh’s Foreign State Minister Shama Obaid Islam and reportedly urged the government to engage with the Indian side on the matter.
The BCB president has also stressed the importance of providing assurances that the Indian team would receive full security during its stay in Bangladesh. Any concerns regarding the safety of players, officials and support staff could have a direct impact on the final decision.
Better Political Relations Could Help
There are also indications that diplomatic communication between the two countries has continued. India has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the BRICS summit being hosted in India, while discussions have also taken place between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
If diplomatic relations improve further, it could create a more favourable environment for the cricket series. However, until both cricket boards formally confirm the programme, uncertainty around the tour is likely to remain.

Mustafizur Rahman Episode Added to Tensions
Relations between the two cricket boards also came under pressure following an incident involving Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman before IPL 2025.
Kolkata Knight Riders removed Mustafizur from their squad after the BCCI reportedly asked the franchise to take the decision. The development became a contentious issue in Bangladesh and added to the tension surrounding cricketing ties between the two countries.
Later, under Aminul Islam’s leadership, the BCB decided not to send its team to the T20 World Cup. The tournament was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Tamim Iqbal’s Leadership Brings Hope
The relationship between the BCB and BCCI appears to have improved since Tamim Iqbal became president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Tamim was appointed to the position around two months ago on a four-year term.
The former Bangladesh captain also visited India earlier this month, providing another opportunity for discussions between the two cricket administrations.
Tamim retired from international cricket last year after a career in which he became one of Bangladesh’s most prominent opening batters.
For now, the biggest question is whether the India Tour Of Bangladesh will finally go ahead in September 2026 or face another postponement. With talks between the BCB and BCCI continuing, cricket fans in both countries will be waiting for an official confirmation before making any assumptions about the series.
