Nepal delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat Oman by eight wickets in the first semi-final of the Asia Cup Men’s Qualifier, securing a place in the tournament final with a convincing victory in Singapore.
The much-anticipated Oman vs Nepal clash turned out to be a one-sided affair as Nepal’s bowlers dismantled the Omani batting lineup before the batters comfortably chased down the modest target with more than ten overs to spare.
Nepal Bowlers Set the Tone
After winning the toss, Oman elected to bat first, hoping to put pressure on Nepal with a competitive total. However, their plan quickly unraveled as Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack kept the runs in check and struck at regular intervals throughout the innings.
Oman struggled to build meaningful partnerships and eventually collapsed for just 94 runs in 19.4 overs. Captain Sufyan Mahmud was the standout performer for his side, scoring 38 runs and providing some resistance in an otherwise disappointing batting display.
Zubair Al Balushi contributed 22 runs, while Abdul Jalil added 16. Apart from these three batters, no other Oman player managed to reach double figures, highlighting the effectiveness of Nepal’s bowling unit.
Fast bowler Karan KC led the attack brilliantly. He claimed three wickets while conceding only 20 runs in his four-over spell, including a maiden over. His early breakthroughs put Oman under pressure and prevented them from gaining any momentum.
Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane picked up two wickets each, while Sahab Alam, Kushal Malla, and Dipendra Singh Airee chipped in with one wicket apiece. The collective effort ensured Oman never recovered after losing wickets at crucial stages of the innings.
Explosive Start Makes Chase Easy
Chasing a target of 95, Nepal approached the innings with positive intent from the very beginning. In-form opener Kushal Bhurtel wasted no time putting the Omani bowlers under pressure.
Bhurtel smashed 20 runs from just eight deliveries, hitting three boundaries and a six to provide a flying start. Although he was dismissed early, Nepal had already gained significant momentum in the chase.
Asif Sheikh departed after scoring only one run, briefly giving Oman hope of a comeback. However, Lokesh Bam and former captain Rohit Paudel ensured there would be no surprises.
Lokesh Bam played the innings of the match, remaining aggressive while maintaining control. He scored 44 runs from just 26 balls, striking seven fours and one six. His attacking approach quickly reduced the required runs and effectively took the game away from Oman.
Rohit Paudel provided valuable support from the other end, scoring 21 runs off 20 deliveries, including two boundaries. Together, they guided Nepal to 95 for 2 in only 9.2 overs, completing one of the most dominant victories of the tournament.
