India’s rising spin sensation Sree Charani has achieved a major milestone in her young international career by climbing to the top of the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings for the first time. The 21-year-old left-arm spinner moved ahead of England’s Linsey Smith to become the highest-ranked bowler in women’s T20 international cricket.
The latest rankings update reflects Charani’s outstanding performances at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, where she has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers. Her remarkable consistency with the ball has played a crucial role in India’s campaign and established her as one of the most promising young bowlers in the game.
World Cup Success Powers Charani to the Top
Sree Charani’s rise to the No. 1 ranking comes after an exceptional start to the Women’s T20 World Cup. She is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming 10 wickets in just three matches.
The left-arm spinner has troubled batters with her accuracy, control, and ability to strike at crucial moments. She picked up four wickets against the Netherlands in Leeds before following it up with another impressive three-wicket haul against South Africa in Manchester. Her performances have helped India remain competitive in a highly challenging tournament.
Charani’s rapid rise is even more impressive considering she made her international debut only a year ago. Since playing her first T20I against England on June 28, 2025, she has taken 38 wickets in 23 matches. Her best bowling figures in international cricket stand at 4 wickets for 12 runs.
Changes in the Bowling Rankings
While Charani has moved into the top spot, several other bowlers have also made significant gains in the latest rankings.
England off-spinner Charlie Dean climbed to second place after taking five wickets in three World Cup matches. Former No. 1 bowler Linsey Smith slipped to third position, while England star Sophie Ecclestone jumped four places to reach fourth.
Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal remains among the leading bowlers, while South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba and England pacer Lauren Bell continue to hold places inside the top ten. India’s experienced all-rounder Deepti Sharma is ranked eighth among bowlers after taking six wickets in the tournament so far.
Several players outside the top ten also made notable progress. West Indies captain Hayley Matthews climbed nine places to 11th, Australia fast bowler Kim Garth surged 25 spots to 20th, and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana moved up 10 places to 25th.
