Akshara Gupta has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Indian women’s cricket after producing a stunning unbeaten triple century at just 15 years of age. From a Small Border Town to the Cricket Spotlight
Behind Akshara’s success is a story of determination and family support rather than access to world-class facilities.
She comes from Raxaul, a small town in Bihar located close to the India-Nepal border. Unlike many emerging cricketers from major cities, Akshara did not grow up with elite academies, advanced infrastructure, or a strong culture of girls playing cricket.
Instead, her journey began in modest surroundings.
Her father, Raj Kishore Shah, runs a chicken shop, while her mother, Reena Devi, is a homemaker. Recognizing their daughter’s passion for cricket, her parents did everything possible to help her pursue the sport.
Her father constructed a practice net and training pitch behind their home so she could train regularly without traveling long distances. Her mother played an equally important role, waking her at 5 a.m. every morning, ensuring she had milk before practice, and encouraging her daily fitness routine.
Picking Up the Bat at Just Eight Years Old
Akshara first picked up a cricket bat when she was eight years old. Like many young cricketers, she initially played alongside her brothers and neighborhood boys.
Her natural ability soon caught the attention of her uncle, Ramkripa, who began helping her improve through regular throwdown sessions and technical practice.
Since 2020, Akshara has trained consistently and continues to spend around five hours every day working on different aspects of her game. That disciplined routine has played a significant role in her rapid development.
