Ryan Ten Doeschate Resigns: India Assistant Coach Steps Down, Set to Rejoin Kolkata Knight Riders

Ryan Ten Doeschate Resigns from his role as the assistant coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, bringing an end to his stint with the national side. The former Netherlands captain informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision during India’s ongoing tour of England. Following his resignation, he is expected to return to the coaching setup of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

According to ESPN, Ryan ten Doeschate will once again become part of the Kolkata Knight Riders coaching staff, a franchise where he has enjoyed both playing and coaching success over the years.

Ryan Ten Doeschate Resigns During England Tour

Ryan ten Doeschate reportedly conveyed his decision to the BCCI while the Indian team was touring England. His resignation comes after a challenging period for the national side, particularly in white-ball cricket.

India suffered defeats in both the T20 International and One-Day International series against England. Before the England tour, the team had also experienced a historic setback after losing a bilateral series 2-0 to Ireland for the first time.

Although no official reason has been publicly disclosed for his departure, the decision marks a significant change in India’s coaching setup.

Joined Team India Alongside Gautam Gambhir

Ryan ten Doeschate became part of the Indian coaching staff after the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup. He joined Team India when Gautam Gambhir took charge as the head coach.

The former Netherlands captain was personally chosen by Gambhir to serve as an assistant coach. During his tenure, Doeschate handled responsibilities across both the batting and fielding departments, working closely with the players in improving their overall performance.

His international playing experience and long association with franchise cricket made him a valuable member of India’s support staff.

India Won Two ICC Titles During His Tenure

Despite mixed results in bilateral and Test cricket, Ryan ten Doeschate’s time with Team India included major achievements on the global stage.

India lifted the 2025 Asia Cup title and followed it up by winning the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, adding two significant trophies during his coaching tenure.

However, the team’s performances in Test cricket were less convincing. India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and also suffered home Test series defeats against New Zealand (3-0) and South Africa (2-0), results that drew criticism from fans and cricket experts.
