Loyes dismissed Henry Nicholls, Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell during his memorable debut spell, while Joseph produced an equally important performance with four wickets for 41 runs. Hit-Wicket Appeal Creates Talking Point
One of the key moments of the match came during the 34th over of the West Indies innings when Carty was batting on 64.
After striking Jacob Duffy for a six, his bat swung backward and made contact with the stumps, causing the bails to fall. New Zealand appealed for a hit-wicket dismissal, prompting a review by the third umpire.
Following multiple replays, third umpire Ahsan Raza ruled Carty not out, allowing the innings to continue.
According to MCC Law 35.2, a batter cannot be given out hit wicket if the contact with the stumps occurs after the completion of playing the shot. Since Carty had already completed his stroke before the bat hit the stumps, the decision to keep him at the crease was in line with the laws of the game.
Rutherford Finishes the Match in Style
Although Carty departed before reaching his century, West Indies remained firmly in control. With 37 runs needed from the final five overs, Hope continued to keep the scoreboard moving while Sherfane Rutherford provided the finishing touch.
Rutherford sealed the victory by smashing a towering six with seven balls remaining, ensuring West Indies crossed the target comfortably.
The successful chase also became the second-highest successful ODI run chase recorded at the Guyana venue, adding another memorable chapter to the hosts’ victory.
