Team India Security Lapse: Questions have been raised over the security arrangements for the Indian cricket team ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi. The concerns have emerged just before the three-match series, with reports claiming that the Indian players did not have a police escort when they travelled to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for their practice session.
The reported security issue has come at a time when Delhi is hosting the BRICS Summit, placing additional pressure on the city’s security machinery. Despite the situation, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has made it clear that there will be no change to the scheduled Afghanistan T20 series.
Team India Security Lapse Reported During Practice Session
According to media reports, the Indian team arrived at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday for its first practice session ahead of the Afghanistan series. However, the players were reportedly not accompanied by police officials or escort vehicles while travelling to the stadium.
Reports further suggest that a similar situation was seen when the team left the stadium after completing its practice and returned to the hotel. The absence of a police escort has raised questions because international cricket teams generally receive dedicated security arrangements while travelling between their hotel and the match venue.
The issue was also highlighted on social media platform X by journalist Ankan Kar. According to the reports, the Indian side, led by captain Shreyas Iyer, travelled to and from the stadium without the security convoy that is normally associated with an international cricket team.
The reported Team India Security Lapse has attracted attention because the Delhi Police had already informed the DDCA that the BRICS Summit could put additional pressure on security arrangements in the capital.
BRICS Summit Creates Additional Security Pressure
Before the reported incident came to light, there had already been speculation about a possible change to the Afghanistan T20 series schedule.
The Delhi Police had reportedly sent an email to the DDCA regarding the security situation during the BRICS Summit. This led to discussions over whether the first match or the series schedule might need to be changed because of the additional security responsibilities in Delhi.
However, the DDCA has rejected the possibility of altering the schedule. The cricket body has confirmed that the series will go ahead as planned, with all three matches scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

India to Play as the Away Team in Delhi
One unusual aspect of this series is that India will technically be the away team, even though all three matches are being played in India.
This is because the Arun Jaitley Stadium has been designated as Afghanistan’s home venue for the series. As a result, Afghanistan will be regarded as the home side, while India will enter the matches as the visiting team.
The three-match T20I series is scheduled to be played on September 13, September 15 and September 17, with all three games taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
With the BRICS Summit taking place at the same time, security arrangements around the teams and the stadium are expected to remain under close attention. The reported Team India Security Lapse has therefore added another layer of concern ahead of the series, although there has been no official announcement indicating that the matches themselves are at risk or that the schedule will be changed.
For now, the DDCA has maintained that the India-Afghanistan T20I series will proceed according to the original schedule.
