Youngest Player to Score an International Fifty
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached his maiden T20I half-century in just his fourth international appearance, achieving a milestone that placed him at the top of the cricket record books.
At 15 years and 118 days, he became the youngest batter in the history of international cricket to score a half-century. In doing so, he surpassed the previous record held by Nepal’s Kushal Malla, who had scored an ODI fifty against the United States in February 2020 at the age of 15 years and 340 days.
The achievement is significant not only because of Vaibhav’s age but also because it came against the pressure of representing India at the highest level. His innings demonstrated maturity, confidence, and an attacking mindset rarely seen in players so early in their careers.
Breaking an Indian Milestone Held by Sachin Tendulkar
Before Vaibhav’s remarkable feat, the record for the youngest Indian to score an international half-century belonged to legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin reached the landmark at 16 years and 213 days, scoring 59 runs in a Test match against Pakistan in Faisalabad in November 1989. For decades, that record stood as one of Indian cricket’s most celebrated age-related milestones.

The knock also marked an impressive turnaround for the young batter. During India’s recent tour of England, Vaibhav managed scores of 14, 13, and 15 in his first three T20I appearances. Those modest returns led to criticism and questions about whether the teenager was ready for international cricket.
Rather than allowing the scrutiny to affect him, Vaibhav answered with his bat in the very first match of the Zimbabwe series.
He raced to his half-century in only 18 deliveries, striking four boundaries and four sixes in a breathtaking display of power-hitting. Shortly after reaching the milestone, he attempted another attacking stroke but was dismissed by Richard Ngarava. His explosive innings ended on the next ball after his fifty, with India already well on course for victory.
