Shafali Verma Becomes Youngest Batter to Complete 3,000 T20I Runs, Creates History

Shafali Verma has added another major milestone to her growing international cricket career. The Indian women’s team opener completed 3,000 runs in T20 International cricket during India’s Asia Cup 2026 clash against Pakistan in Dubai, becoming the youngest batter in women’s T20I history to reach the landmark.

The milestone came during India’s chase of a modest 56-run target. Shafali Verma scored 12 runs before her dismissal, but those runs were enough to take her overall T20I tally past the 3,000-run mark.

Shafali Verma Breaks Major Age Record

Shafali Verma reached 3,000 T20I runs at the age of 22 years and 220 days, surpassing the previous record held by Ireland’s Gaby Lewis.

Lewis had reached the same milestone at the age of 24 years and 347 days. Shafali’s achievement therefore made her the youngest player to complete 3,000 runs in women’s T20I cricket.

United Arab Emirates batter Esha Oza occupies the third position on the list after reaching the milestone at 27 years and 139 days. India’s Smriti Mandhana completed 3,000 T20I runs at the age of 27 years and 171 days.

The record underlines just how quickly Shafali has established herself as one of the prominent batters in women’s T20 cricket.

Third Indian Woman to Score 3,000 T20I Runs

With this achievement, Shafali Verma became the 16th women’s batter overall to score 3,000 runs in T20 International cricket.

She is also only the third Indian women’s batter to reach the landmark. Before Shafali, the feat had been achieved by India’s experienced stars Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Shafali has now played 114 T20 International matches, scoring 3,005 runs at an average of 28.08 and an impressive strike rate of 137.46. Her T20I career includes 19 half-centuries, with her highest score being 81 runs.

Her aggressive approach at the top of the order has made her an important part of India’s limited-overs setup, particularly in the shortest format of the game.

India Complete Comfortable Win Over Pakistan

The milestone came in India’s Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on September 5.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision did not work in their favour. The Pakistani batting lineup struggled against the Indian bowling attack, with no batter able to produce a substantial innings. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for just 55 runs.

India made light work of the chase and secured a convincing seven-wicket victory. The result also gave India a hat-trick of wins in the tournament.

Before defeating Pakistan, India had already recorded comfortable victories over the women’s teams of Thailand and Hong Kong. The latest win further strengthened India’s position in the Asia Cup 2026 campaign.

For Shafali Verma, however, the match will be remembered for another reason. At just 22, she has joined an elite group of batters to cross 3,000 T20I runs while simultaneously rewriting the age record for reaching the landmark.
