Afghanistan BCCI T20 Series Schedule Change

Afghanistan BCCI T20 Series Schedule Change: India-Afghanistan T20 Dates May Be Revised

The Afghanistan BCCI T20 Series Schedule Change could be on the cards as the dates for the upcoming three-match T20 International series between India and Afghanistan may be revised. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has reportedly sent a new proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), suggesting that the matches be played on September 11, 13 and 14 instead of the originally announced September 13, 15 and 17.

However, no final decision has been taken yet. Discussions between the ACB and BCCI are understood to be continuing, and the proposed dates will only become official after both boards reach an agreement.

All three matches are scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Afghanistan Proposes September 11, 13 and 14

Under the original schedule, India and Afghanistan were expected to play their three-match T20I series on September 13, 15 and 17. The ACB has now proposed moving the matches forward to September 11, 13 and 14.

The proposal has been made after discussions with stakeholders associated with the Afghanistan board. The reasoning behind the request is linked to attendance and spectator interest. The ACB believes that the revised dates could attract more people to the stadium and potentially lead to better crowds during the three matches.

For now, the proposal remains under consideration. The BCCI is expected to review the request before confirming whether the schedule will be changed.

All Three T20 Matches to Be Played in New Delhi

Regardless of the dates, the venue is expected to remain unchanged. The entire three-match T20 International series is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The series will be a notable occasion for Afghanistan as it represents the first time the Afghan side will host India in a bilateral series. However, because of the existing arrangements, all three matches will be played in India.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board is therefore looking to make the series as successful as possible, with crowd attendance being one of the factors behind its request for a change in dates.

Bangladesh Series Could Be Dropped

Another important factor behind the possible Afghanistan BCCI T20 Series Schedule Change is the uncertainty surrounding India’s proposed series against Bangladesh.

The possibility of the Bangladesh tour taking place is now believed to be very low. This could give the Indian team a relatively open window in September, making the revised Afghanistan schedule more practical.

India’s Test series against Sri Lanka is expected to conclude on August 27, while the Asian Games are scheduled to begin on September 24. That leaves a gap between the two major events during which the Indian team could potentially play the Afghanistan T20I series.

Because of this available window, Afghanistan officials are reportedly hopeful that the BCCI will agree to their proposed dates.

India and Afghanistan Have Already Played in Two Formats

India and Afghanistan have already faced each other in Test and ODI cricket. In June, India hosted Afghanistan for a Test match followed by a three-match ODI series.

The upcoming T20 International series will complete the three-format cycle between the two teams. Once the T20Is are played, India and Afghanistan will have faced each other in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

This makes the upcoming series particularly significant for Afghanistan, which has steadily strengthened its presence in international cricket and continues to build its relationship with major cricketing nations.

What BCCI Said About the Original Schedule

When the original dates were announced, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had highlighted the significance of the series. He had pointed out that India had already hosted Afghanistan in June, when the two teams played a Test and an ODI series.

Saikia also noted that after the T20 International series, India and Afghanistan would have competed against each other across all three formats of international cricket.

The latest proposal from the ACB could now bring a change to the dates of that series, but the final confirmation is still awaited.

Final Decision on T20I Dates Still Pending

At present, the September 13, 15 and 17 schedule remains the previously announced arrangement, while September 11, 13 and 14 are the new dates proposed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

The BCCI and ACB will have to agree before any official change is made. Until then, cricket fans should wait for confirmation from the two boards rather than treating the revised dates as final.

If the proposal is accepted, India and Afghanistan will begin their three-match T20I series on September 11, followed by matches on September 13 and 14, all at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The change would also create a compact three-match schedule, with the final two games being played on consecutive days.

For now, the key development is that the Afghanistan BCCI T20 Series Schedule Change is under discussion, with the ACB having formally proposed new dates and the BCCI’s final decision still awaited.
