India came close to securing another win in the second Test, but Sonal Dinusha stood firmly between the visitors and victory. The Sri Lankan batter delivered a remarkable innings under pressure, remaining unbeaten on 133 runs from 264 balls. His innings included eight fours and two sixes.
Dinusha’s resistance proved crucial as Sri Lanka managed to survive the final day and secure a draw at the SSC Ground in Colombo.
India had declared their first innings at 503/9, putting Sri Lanka under considerable pressure. In reply, the hosts were dismissed for just 290 runs, giving India a commanding 213-run first-innings lead.
India then enforced the follow-on, putting Sri Lanka in a difficult position. However, the home side showed much greater determination in its second innings and batted for 154 overs, finishing on 429/9. Dinusha’s unbeaten century played a central role in ensuring that Sri Lanka avoided defeat.
India Win the Two-Test Series 1-0
Although India could not finish the Colombo Test with a win, the team had already done enough to secure the series. The victory in Galle in the first Test proved decisive, with India winning that match by 165 runs.
Devdutt Padikkal was named Player of the Series after scoring 328 runs across the two Tests. His consistent contribution with the bat was one of the highlights of India’s successful campaign.
Sonal Dinusha, meanwhile, received the Player of the Match award in the second Test after scoring centuries in both innings. His performances were instrumental in helping Sri Lanka avoid a series-clinching defeat in Colombo.
India’s Strong Test Record in Sri Lanka Continues
The series result also extended India’s impressive record in Sri Lanka. The Indian team has remained unbeaten in Test series on Sri Lankan soil since 2008.
During India’s 2010 tour of Sri Lanka, the three-match series ended 1-1. India then returned in 2015 and won the series 2-1. Two years later, in 2017, India produced an even stronger performance, completing a 3-0 series sweep.
Now, in 2026, India have once again left Sri Lanka without losing a Test series, this time securing a 1-0 victory.

The last time India lost a Test series in Sri Lanka was in 2008, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a three-match series. Since then, India have maintained an unbeaten Test-series record on Sri Lankan soil.
