India vs England 2nd T20: Jacob Bethell’s Unbeaten 76 Guides England to Four-Wicket Victory

England Chase Down 191 to Take Early Lead in the Five-Match Series

India vs England 2nd T20 ended in England’s favor as the hosts produced an impressive run chase to defeat India by four wickets in Manchester. Powered by a composed and attacking unbeaten 76 from Jacob Bethell, England successfully chased down a target of 191 in 19 overs, finishing on 191/6.

The victory gives England a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 International series, with the third match scheduled to be played on July 7. While India posted a competitive total after several useful batting contributions, England recovered brilliantly from an early collapse to secure an important win.

India Make a Strong Start After Winning the Toss

India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first on a batting-friendly surface. The match also marked the international debut of young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who immediately caught the attention of fans with his fearless approach.

The teenager announced himself in style by clearing the boundary off Jofra Archer early in his innings. Although he looked confident, his stay at the crease was brief as he was stumped for 14 from 10 deliveries after hitting two sixes.

Abhishek Sharma then continued India’s aggressive start with an entertaining knock. The left-hander struck eight boundaries and a six during his 43 off just 24 balls before Sam Curran dismissed him, leaving India at 65/2.

Middle Order Keeps India on Course

Captain Shreyas Iyer played another fluent innings, scoring 37 from 22 balls with three fours and a six. He built useful partnerships that helped India maintain momentum through the middle overs before Liam Dawson removed him.

Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with a well-paced 49 from 40 deliveries, finding the boundary six times. He looked set for a half-century but fell just one run short after becoming Sam Curran’s third wicket of the evening.

Tilak Varma added valuable late runs with an unbeaten 24 from only 11 balls, including one four and two sixes. Despite losing wickets in the closing overs, India finished with a competitive total of 190/7 in their 20 overs.

Sam Curran was England’s standout bowler, claiming three wickets and preventing India from pushing beyond the 200-run mark.

Arshdeep Singh Rocks England in the Opening Over

England’s chase got off to a disastrous start as Arshdeep Singh struck twice in the very first over. Phil Salt was dismissed without scoring on the opening delivery, while Jos Buttler also departed for a duck just three balls later.

At 0/2, India appeared firmly in control, but England’s middle order responded with confidence.

Harry Brook counterattacked aggressively, smashing 39 from only 15 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. His quick innings shifted the momentum before Axar Patel dismissed him.

Bethell and Banton Turn the Match Around

With England under pressure, Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton produced the partnership that changed the game.

The pair rebuilt the innings sensibly before accelerating as the chase progressed. England crossed the 100-run mark in the 11th over, putting the required run rate under control.

Banton contributed an important 39 from 32 balls, striking six boundaries before Arshdeep Singh removed him. However, Bethell continued to dominate the bowling attack.

The left-hander reached his half-century in just 39 balls and never allowed India to regain control. Mixing calculated aggression with smart strike rotation, Bethell finished unbeaten on 76 from 46 balls, hitting five fours and five sixes in a match-winning performance.

His calm finish ensured England reached the target with an over to spare despite losing six wickets.

Match Summary

India’s total of 190 looked competitive for much of the evening, especially after Arshdeep Singh’s double strike in the opening over of England’s chase. However, England recovered through positive batting from Harry Brook, Tom Banton and, most importantly, Jacob Bethell, whose unbeaten innings proved to be the difference.

Although India received encouraging contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma, the bowlers were unable to contain England once Bethell settled at the crease.
