IND vs ENG 5th T20: England Seal Series with 56-Run Victory as Jos Buttler’s 131 Powers 4-0 Triumph

England wrapped up a dominant T20I series against India with an emphatic 56-run victory in the IND vs ENG 5th T20 at Southampton. A breathtaking century from Jos Buttler and a destructive unbeaten knock by Harry Brook helped the hosts post a massive total before their bowlers completed another convincing win.

With the victory, England claimed the five-match series 4-0 after one game was abandoned due to rain. India, meanwhile, endured a disappointing campaign in which both their batting and bowling units struggled for consistency. The two sides will now shift their focus to the upcoming three-match ODI series, beginning on July 14.

Buttler and Brook Dominate India’s Bowling

After India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first, England recovered quickly from an early setback to produce one of their best batting displays of the series.

Phil Salt departed cheaply for just six runs after being caught off Prasidh Krishna, leaving England at 8/1. However, that proved to be India’s only moment of early success as Jos Buttler and Harry Brook took complete control of the innings.

Buttler played one of the finest T20 innings of his career, combining elegant strokeplay with clean power-hitting. The former England captain reached his half-century in 34 balls before accelerating further to complete his century in only 51 deliveries. He eventually scored a sensational 131 from 64 balls, smashing 12 boundaries and eight sixes.

Brook provided the perfect support from the other end. The England captain attacked from the outset, racing to his fifty in just 19 balls. He remained unbeaten on 95 from only 45 deliveries, striking four fours and eight sixes in another explosive innings.

The pair dismantled the Indian attack throughout the middle overs, helping England cross the 200-run mark in the 16th over. Buttler was eventually dismissed for 131 after adding crucial runs, but by then England had already built an imposing platform.

England finished with an outstanding 257/3 in 20 overs, setting India an enormous target of 258 for victory.

India Lose Early Momentum in Chase

India needed an exceptional batting effort to chase down the highest target of the series, but their innings never gained sustained momentum.

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for just three runs after falling to Jofra Archer, giving England an ideal start with the ball.

Sanju Samson counter-attacked with an entertaining 27 off 14 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes, but his innings ended quickly when Sam Curran struck.

Captain Shreyas Iyer attempted to keep the chase alive with 28 from 16 balls before Liam Dawson removed him at a crucial stage, leaving India under increasing pressure.

Kishan and Tilak Fight Back but England Stay in Control

Despite losing regular wickets, India found resistance through Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma.

Kishan played an aggressive knock of 56 from 35 balls, hitting seven boundaries and two sixes to keep India’s hopes alive during the middle overs. However, Adil Rashid dismissed the left-hander just as he appeared capable of launching a bigger assault.

Tilak Varma continued the fight with a brisk 53 from only 25 deliveries, producing several powerful hits over the boundary. His innings briefly reduced the required run rate, but the asking rate remained beyond India’s reach.

Shivam Dube contributed 14 runs before Sam Curran struck again, while Suryansh Shedge managed only seven.

England’s disciplined bowling attack prevented any major partnerships during the closing overs, ensuring India never seriously threatened the target.

India eventually finished on 201/8 in 20 overs, falling 56 runs short.

England Complete Dominant Series Win

The result reflected England’s superiority throughout the T20I series. Their batting consistently posted challenging totals, while the bowling attack regularly applied pressure during India’s run chases.

India struggled to produce complete performances across the five matches. The batting lineup repeatedly failed to build long partnerships, and the bowling unit found it difficult to contain England’s aggressive approach.

England, by contrast, executed their plans effectively in every department. Buttler delivered one of the standout individual performances of the series, while Brook once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the most dangerous T20 batters in world cricket.
